I was on a demo call yesterday with a mortgage veteran. No website. He told…

I recently sat down with Dustin Owen, host of The Loan Officer Podcast for a reverse interview.
Instead of Dustin interviewing someone else in the mortgage industry, I wanted to flip the script and get his perspective on where things are heading right now.
We talked about AI, content, trust, visibility, prospecting, and whether loan officers will still exist 10 years from now.
One of the biggest takeaways from the conversation was this:
Technology may change how mortgages get processed, but it does not eliminate the need for trusted humans.
Dustin made a point that really stood out. He believes the role of the loan officer is evolving more into what he called a “human experience manager.”
The systems, automation, and AI tools will continue improving. But borrowers will still want someone they trust when anxiety, confusion, or major financial decisions show up.

That aligns closely with what we believe at Vonk.
The internet changed how borrowers research.
AI is changing how borrowers discover.
But trust is still the thing people are looking for.

We also talked about how many loan officers are still creating content that only other mortgage professionals understand. Industry jargon. Product names. Acronyms. Technical explanations.
Meanwhile, consumers are just trying to understand:
- Can I afford this?
- What are my options?
- Who can I trust?
- Who actually understands my situation?
Dustin emphasized storytelling over “mortgage marketing.”
Not becoming an influencer.
Not dancing on TikTok.
Just becoming more visible, more relatable, and more understandable online.
Another major topic was discoverability.
Borrowers are no longer just Googling loan officers. They are asking ChatGPT. They are using AI search tools. They are researching long before they ever reach out.
That means your website can no longer just exist.
It has to work.
It has to explain who you are, what you do, and why someone should trust you.
The conversation was optimistic overall.
Not because the industry is getting easier.
But because the opportunity is still there for professionals willing to adapt, communicate clearly, and stay visible.
