If someone lands on your website, don’t make them work to understand who you are, how you can help, or how to contact you. Here’s a checklist of what every mortgage loan officer’s website should have to make the most of that first impression and to make your site a better tool for building trust, answering questions, and generating leads.

1. A photo of you

People want to see who they’re working with. A professional, friendly photo builds trust fast. It humanizes your brand and helps your visitors feel more connected. (We all used to try and look HUGE like the biggest companies in the industry. That strategy is tired. Show yourself.

2. Booking calendar access (if you use one)

Make it easy for people to schedule time with you; no back-and-forth. Tools like Calendly or Acuity can integrate directly into your site.

3. Click-to-text button
If you’re comfortable texting with leads, this can be a game-changer. It gives visitors a low-pressure way to reach out with questions and it’s mobile-friendly.

4. Relevant self-serve calculators
Tools like buydown, refinance, affordability, or DSCR calculators let visitors run numbers without leaving your site. They’re helpful and keep people engaged longer.

5. A short welcome video (ideally)
A 30-60 second video with you introducing yourself, who you help, and how you work can dramatically increase trust and connection. Keep it casual and authentic.

6. A link to your application
Make it obvious and easy to apply. If someone is ready to start the process, don’t make them search for your app link.

7. Your online reviews
Social proof matters. Show off your Google or Zillow reviews (or both) so people can see how others felt about working with you.

8. Access to anything valuable you’ve created
Have great videos, downloads, or social channels? Don’t hide them. Feature your best content to show your expertise and build credibility.

9. A clear explanation of your niche (if you have one)
Be specific about who you help and how.

Example: “We help growing families buy their next home before selling their current one without the stress. Text us to learn how.”

10. Blog content if you’re a writer
Use your blog to share insights, answer questions, and show expertise. It’s great for SEO and gives you something to send in emails or post on social.

11. Embedded videos if you’re a video person
If you’re more comfortable on camera, stream your YouTube channel or embed videos on your site. Create a video library to educate and build trust.

12. Event schedule if you host events
If you host homebuyer webinars, partner classes, or local events, list them on your site so people can attend or rewatch.

Think of your website as your 24/7 first impression. If it doesn’t clearly show who you are, what you do, and how someone can work with you it’s probably costing you business.

The good news? Fixing that doesn’t have to be hard. This checklist is a great start. And if you want it done for you, that’s what we do every day at Vonk Digital.

I have spent the last 15 years in the mortgage industry. In 2006 I opened a small brokerage with a few friends that we were able to grow from a 4 person brokerage to a multi state mortgage lender that made the Inc 500 list, Inc 5000 List, and was the San Diego Business Journal's #1 Fastest Growing company one year. In 2017 we made Entrepreneur Magazine's Entrepreneur 360 list of the 360 Most Entrepreneurial companies in the country. In 2018 we sold the company and I stayed on for over a year working on and with the executive team to help successfully merge the two companies.

I am now focusing my time with Vonk Digital which is a SAAS website and marketing platform that helps originators get found online, build authority, and control their personal brand.
