mortgage website speed

Mortgage website speed is pretty important. There are a few major things it can affect.

The main reason your website needs to be fast is to keep visitors from leaving.

If your website does not load in a few seconds (2-4) visitors will most likely move on.

Page speed has also been linked to Google ranking.

It is one of their ranking indicators, how much of a factor it really is, is unknown (at least to me). When it comes to page speed I am thinking about the user experience, not so much Google.

What is causing my mortgage website speed to be slow?

Large Images

The biggest mistake I see is users often upload massive images to their websites. Resulting in a slower your mortgage website speed. No image should have an “MB” after the number. Images should all be in low “kb” size. For example your website logo should only be about 20kb. The slider image should be no more than 300kb.

To many HTTP Requests

Remove any scripts to 3rd party tools from your homepage that you can. For instance, do not put a google map, a review widget, or a mortgage calculator on your homepage. Tracking pixels can also increase the amount of requests that need to take place.

No Caching

Having a good caching plugin is crucial, we recommend WP ROCKET, in-fact we install it on all of our websites.

To Many Plugins

WordPress users often get plugin happy and add plugins for everything. Plugins should only be used if you absolutely need them. Some plugin authors also stop updating there product which can further reduce mortgage website speed and security.

In the video below I go through exactly how I review mortgage website speed and what to look for in the reports.

We use GTMetrix to test our websites. Feel free to try it, it is free.

Vinnie Balsamo

I co-founded Vonk Digital in 2011 after helping my brother and his business partners build a web presence for their small mortgage brokerage. After realizing this was something I really enjoyed doing I was fortunate enough to take this venture on full time and we have been growing ever since!
