video background

Want a video background on your homepage? This can be a great way to #differentiate you or your mortgage company.

Q: “Can I use a video background from a video we made?”

A: Yes. The more personal the better for branding.

A video background can definitely bring your website to life. It can also make your homepage worse if it is not executed properly. Here are some do’s and don’ts.

Don’ts:

  1. Do not use a video with a lot of motion. If your video has a fast moving background, such as a drone flyover or the feeling of  someone walking, it can make the viewer dizzy. It also makes it hard to read any text you may have.
  2. Do not host the video on your site. This will make your load speed very poor.
  3. Do not have a ton of color change. If you have text over the video, try and avoid a video that is bright one second and dark another. This can make text hard to read. The only solution would be to use a color overlay to soften that.

Do’s:

  1. Host the video on Youtube. This will save loading time.
  2. Find videos with a still background or with slow motion movement.
  3. If you need a stock video go here: https://www.storyblocks.com/

I co-founded Vonk Digital in 2011 after helping my brother and his business partners build a web presence for their small mortgage brokerage. After realizing this was something I really enjoyed doing I was fortunate enough to take this venture on full time and we have been growing ever since!
